These are two new sculptures on the theme of maternity. As I observed mothers with their children around me, I realized how infinitely dependent and abandoned the children were with their mother: their whole world revolves around the mother, making them a part of her, even if they are not part of the maternal body as before the birth anymore.

I made this sculpture for my brother and his wife, Pep and Louisa, who got married in June… I hope they like it: Tany finds it too erotic, I wanted to show the image they reflect: Pep with his faux air of detachment, in a couple more better-matched, more tender, closer and more in love than any other I have ever seen.

Tany just finished a new painting. Acrylic on Financial Times covering a 100×100cm canvas. It is the artist’s first autoportrait. Violaine - our DejaVu artist - is also depicted in red at the center of the painting. Once again the painting is very colourful and displays a warm summery feeling along with a strange discomfort.

The weather is sad today, and little light comes into the kitchen. I woke up early this morning. I had trouble sleeping. At 5:30 when I heard the noise of the first cars, I called to John softly. Violaine, inspired by Tany’s painting, ‘Strangled Man Wearing Yellow Bowler’, has written the tale behind this awkward art work:

Violaine, inspired by the current pregnancy of her godmother, has just finished two small size sculptures. One is a pregnant woman kneeling, and the second one is a standing woman breastfeeding a new born.
