I wanted to do a sad clown painting - not a depressed one - more of someone in need of affection. I was looking for inspiration and I found a picture of a doll rapt in bandage so then I thought that a sad clown / voodoo doll with a pin in the heart would be interesting. It’s is actually more a “Pierrot la Lune” than a clown, he’s all black and white, contrasting with the colourful background. I will let viewers decide whether he pinned the words behind himself or if a lover did a voodoo doll…
